The basic concept of the game is to be handed cards adding up to 21. Each chemin de fer player is assigned 2 cards. When a gambler is given a 9 or less and an Ace they’ve been dealt a soft hand. When the blackjack player receives no Ace cards it is called as a hard hand. Once the cards have been given to all players at the blackjack table, which includes the dealer, every blackjack player is provided the opportunity to make one of six actions:

Taking another card (Hit): When a black jack player says "hit" the croupier will deal him another card, if the addition of that card causes the value of the hand to exceed 21 the black jack player will have busted and be excluded from the game, if the card makes the value of the hand to 21 the black jack player wins and if the value of the hand has not yet reached 21 they are still in the game.

Keeping the hand you have been dealt: If a black jack player is happy with the hand they’ll stay. Once this has happened the croupier will disclose his/her hand and the player who has accumulated 21 or the closet to 21 will come away with a win.

Doubling Down: A player may request to double down which doubles the wager they have placed. As soon as you’ve taken this procedure you can only receive 1 more card. The specifics of doubling down are normally out lined by the blackjack table or betting house game rules so before competing make sure you are comfortable with the house established rules.
